Goosewinged: Powered By Nature

Our namesake, “Goosewinged”, is a nautical term used to describe a technique of sailing which involves sailing with the wind behind you, with one sail to port (left) and one to starboard (right), like the wings of a goose. Goosewinged ™ conjures an incredible sense of peace, calm, equilibrium, and unbridled freedom, which we aim to bring to people’s daily lives with our fresh take on, sustainable, quality sailing attire and everyday clothing wear….with an edge!

Background & Inspiration

A keen yachtsman, the founder of Goosewinged ™, hails from the South West of England, living between Dartmouth, in Devon, and Bristol.

Dartmouth, home of the Brittania Royal Naval College, is a small, quiet harbour town set in a beautiful, picturesque location by the mouth of the River Dart. It is an idyllic place to sail from and is a popular hotspot for city-living sailing enthusiasts looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. This is very much reflected in the town’s culture, and sailing runs deep in the town’s history.

Bristol, on the other hand, is a bustling and vibrant city, known for its street art, lively bars and restaurants, and thriving music scene. It is also known for its creativity and innovation, with some of it’s most famous exports include the likes of Banksy, Massive Attack and Portishead, to name but just a few. Like Dartmouth, Bristol is also steeped in nautical history, even being used as a starting place for early voyages of exploration to the New World in the 15th and 16th centuries.

The combined cultures of these two locations very much represent an eclectic mix of city and sea, and serve as a huge source of passion and inspiration for the Goosewinged ™ brand. We work with both local and international artists to ensure our clothing designs are always fresh and unique.

Mission & Values

Being seafaring folk, we have a close relationship with the environment around us, especially the oceans, rivers and other waterways. Sustainability is always at the forefront of our minds, and we take measures to ensure that the materials that we source and supply are reusable, biodegradable, and recyclable, and that they are supplied and manufactured using carbon-neutral methods where possible. Our products are organic and fair-trade while maintaining the best possible quality, hard-wearing, durable, and ready for a day out on even the roughest of waters.

We hold great importance in developing mutually beneficial relationships with clothing brands and manufacturers who prioritise ethical production processes and environmentally friendly practices. We are big advocates of carbon-neutral manufacturing processes, and ultimately aim to be completely carbon-neutral in all aspects of our business processes.

We also work alongside charitable organisations to support and, where necessary, challenge environmental factors. We are often involved in environmental protection activities like beach clean-ups and removing plastic debris from the ocean, and our mission is to lead and grow initiatives like these by partnering with local charities and environmental protection organisations to protect our planet now and in the future.
